design by Susan Weisser
The starkness of a graphic silhouette is back in style --- in both fashion and home decor. This simple design demonstrates the dynamic power of color and shape.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Design Master Sprays - COLORTOOL Sprays FLAT WHITE, OLIVE BRIGHT - white lotus bowl, 1/2 block lime green Oasis foam, 1 monstera leaf, 3 green cymbidiums, cardboard disc, 2 green chenille stems, Oasis floral adhesive

TECHNIQUE

Spraying approximately 15" from the surface, color the large monstera leaf with Flat White. For a lacquered look apply 3 light coats, allowing each coat to dry before applying the next.

Soak floral foam in water, cut to fit in bowl and trim to be flush with the top .

Landscape the monstera leaf by laying it across the top of the foam.

Spray both sides of a small cardboard disc with Olive Bright. Punch 2 holes in the center of the disc and thread with chenile stems.

Construct a composite flower with petals of 2 orchids, keeping the orchid throats to the side. Radiating from the cardboard disc, adhere orchid petals with the floral adhesive. Apply a second overlapping layer of petals. Glue the remaining orchid in center of composite petals. Adhere the extra throats to center of flower.

Place the composite cymbidium onto the leaf and pierce the leaf with ends
of the chenille stem to insert into foam.

Project Tip: A cluster of the three cymbidium orchids inserted into the foam could be substituted for the composite styled blossom.

Where to Recycle

Every day, the average American produces four and a half pounds of trash — 75 percent of which is recyclable. Recycling rules vary from town to town. To find what and where to recycle near your home click: www.earth911.com. This guide will make it easier to do the right thing.

Design Master sprays are packaged in steel cans made of at least 25 percent recycled steel. When empty, these cans are accepted in the metal bin of recycling programs, both at curbside or drop-off stations. Remember, items in the metal bin include: soda, juice, and soup cans (rinsed, but de-labeled only if requested); washed-off aluminum pie tins and foil; and bottle caps, wire coat hangers, empty (non-punctured) aerosol cans, and other scrap metal.... but NO batteries or electronics.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Design Master Sprays - COLORTOOL Sprays MINERAL BLUE, CLEAR FINISH Matte - unfinished wood box - piece of paper - scrapbooking adhesive label packet - rub on transfers - 1 yd chocolate ribbon - hot glue

TECHNIQUE

Following directions on the can, spray the box in 2 light layers of Mineral Blue color. Let dry between coats.

Sand painted surface with a piece of paper (scratch paper or paper bag). Wipe surface clean. This make a nice final sand for presanded wood. Apply another coat of Mineral Blue. Let dry.

Glue one end of ribbon to the center front of box. Wrap ribbon tightly around box and glue the loose end on top of the other. With a small length of ribbon and beginning in its center, tie a series of square knots the width of the ribbon. Glue the knots over the ribbon seam. Roll under the ribbon tails for a clean finish and glue in place.

Apply scrapbooking labels and transfers in desired locations.

Project Tip: Share this craft with the kids. Prepare the painted box ahead of time then allow their creativity to decorate!

French Inspired Pots

Encrusted with a thick coat of glaze, rustic antique pots from the Provence region of France have caught the attention of designers for many years. Imitate the warmth and character of these pots on modern day pottery with a few tricks using Design Master COLORTOOL Sprays.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Design Master Sprays - COLORTOOL Sprays ALMOND, WALNUT WOOD TONE, MESS MASTER, SAFFRON, HUNTER GREEN (or desired colors), MASTER SHINE or DRESDEN CLEAR GLAZE - 4" terra cotta rose pot or terra cotta style of choice

TECHNIQUE

Spray two light coats of Almond over the lower 2/3rds of pot. Then with short bursts of spray, splatter paint in this area with Walnut Wood Tone.

Again with short bursts, spray this area with Mess Master to erratically blend colors together. Let dry.

Hold the bottom of the pot with the rim turned sideways. Disregarding the label directions, point the nozzle close to the rim and spray a heavy coat of Saffron or Hunter Green around the rim and slightly below. As paint runs begin, rotate the pot to create an irregular edge. Allow paint to set before placing it upright. Let dry.

Spray rimof pot heavily with Dresden Clear Glaze or triple thick Master Shine. Let drips run. For more control of drip pattern, hold pot as in step 3 and rotate to area desired for runs. Let dry.

To create the weathered look on pots to the right

Lightly spray Hunter Green just below the rim. Then spray Mess Master over this to disipate the color. Let dry.

At the base of the pots spray ColorTEX FLURRY to mimic salt accumulations.

Project Tip: To splatter color using an aerosol, push the spray tip forward while pressing down. Apply in short bursts. This will cause the spray to splatter. Normal application is to press straight down.
MESS MASTER is the solvent to the sprays, it will blend the colors together.

TOOLS AND MATERIALS

Design Master Sprays - COLORTOOL Sprays OLIVE BRIGHT, VANILLA - MESS MASTER - 4" Potted Poinsettia, White - 4" Tall Clay Pot - 2 Clusters, Red Glass Milimeter Balls - Paper Towel - Laytex Glove

TECHNIQUE

Spray in a room temperature, well-ventilated area. Protect adjacent areas from overspray.

Make sure poinsettia blossoms are clean and dry.

With glove-protected hand, gently lift overlapping bracts. In a light mist of color, spray bracts approx. 15" away. Color the underlying areas first then the top bracts.

Allow color to dry before applying a second light coat. This evens and enriches the color.

Spray clay pot in 2 coats of Vanilla. Let dry.

Wrap paper towel around an index finger. Spray Mess Master onto fingertip then wipe away color on desired areas of clay pot. This adds a modern rustic look to the clay pot.

Plant poinsettia into pot. In a mounding fashion, pick red milimeter balls into soil
